The wait is over. After months of teasers and singles, Kadeli (AKA: Hipyo Tech) has finally released his debut single “Wanted More”. This EP consists of 6 songs, 2 of them already released (Serpentine and Where U Going). According to the artist, the songs follow his journey through grief and broken relationships.

Sad songs are like hugs to me, they really brighten my mood knowing someone is sharing my struggle. I wanted to be able to share that with others.

My first impressions when listening, the theme and story order reminds me of BTS’s Love Yourself album – where it follows a story of love, hate, breakup, and acceptance. The same goes for this, except without the happy ending. Kadeli ends his story with the acceptance of him being single again but still sad and hurt. The music gives an R&B vibe with small doses of pop, with influences from known artists such as Joji, Kid Laroi, and Keshi, but also gives his own interpretation of the genre.

What’s cool about Kadeli is that he’s making waves in the indie music scene with both Serpentine and Where U Going getting a total of 100k streams on Spotify. Also, his music captured the ears of Australians as Sydney, Melbourne, and Queensland are his top cities according to his Spotify analytics.

But basically, in my honest opinion at least, Wanted More – EP showcases the personal and vulnerable side of Kadeli, something that’s never showcased on YouTube via the Hipyo Tech channel or other forms of social media.

The songs

There are 6 songs in total in this EP, all of which follows a narrative. If you listen carefully, you’d notice that even the tempo and pitch keeps getting lower the more you go through his music. It’s like a downward spiral towards sadness, where the 6th song – Who Hurt You? – ends up sounding normal again.

Something I’ve noticed is that some of the songs may be targetting someone. This can be predominantly heard in “Wanted More”. You can hear his aggression, yet feel like some sort of mockery towards the person. “Backseat” also may be similar to this as it feels like a retelling of a breakup. There have been discussions over on social media that it may be about his past relationship but nothing is confirmed.

My favourite song in this EP is ‘All the best ways’ as it has this catchy pop vibe. It’s also a great song for those who are cheesy romantics. It expresses that relatable feeling of euphoria and happiness when in love. I also found the line “you can go and tell your mama” really comedic as it resonates with Kadeli’s knowledge of internet slang that you hear in his livestreams as Hipyo Tech. However, the only thing that slightly throws me off is how nasally he sounds in comparison to his other songs. But nevertheless, it is a fun song worth listening to.

Final thoughts for Wanted More

As someone who is known for making keyboard videos, Wanted More shows off another side of Kadeli, something that’s more personal. The music tells a story and follows his journey of emotions through love and grief and it’s quite artistic. Some. of the music reminds me of other artists I listen to while staying original. The EP is both fun and sad but yet, something you’d enjoy listening to.
