Pelican Feeding

What started as a pastime ended up as a tourist attraction.

“I’ve been doing this for 18 years, I love em” Wendy says as she prepares and talks to the visitors and tourists. “Plus, I’m able to rescue and check up on them”.

How the pelican feed happen

The Pelican feeding program wasn’t always a spectacle.

It wasn’t until one day that the employee was off schedule that the pelicans walked across the (what used to be) road and waited in front of the shop. Since then, the council took over and buy the fish off the fish and chips shop.

It’s a win-win situation for both the local council and the small-food business.

A pastime turned educational

The local council makes sure that visitors are educated about the birds during this hour. Feeding the pelicans is their way of making sure that they’re safe, healthy, and well-fed. What used to be a pastime is now an education spectacle for families and tourists to enjoy.

The local council and volunteers allow tourists to talk to them before and after feeding and to give donations as it helps keep the program alive.
