PAX Aus was filled with Australian indie game devs and aspiring game makers, showcasing what they got to a growing market. During my time at the convention, there was one title that caught my attention – Nekograms, a puzzle game involving cats!
Nekograms is an indie puzzle game developed by Western Australia’s Hungry Sky. It’s important to note that this game is already out on mobile for Apple and Andriod for $2.99 AUD and it’s also part of Apple Arcade. However, the game devs were showcasing the upcoming PC and Nintendo Switch release.
The game is simple, put the cats on pillows. Pillows only move vertically, while the cats only move diagonally. It’s up to you to solve this kitty conundrum as more obstacles get added as you level up. This game reminded me of those old puzzle games where you need to move the car to the parking lot exit. But instead of letting cats go, you want them to be relaxed.
During my time playing the game, I was quite relaxed and it did trigger the puzzle-solving side of me. It gave me a challenge, the art was pretty cute, and I wanted to play longer but couldn’t due to the limited time I had. While it did feel a bit repetitive at times, the cuteness of the game was a good distraction. Also, you get introduced to new cats and jeez, I just want to pet them all.
According to the game’s Steam page, players will be able to explore more than just a coffee shop. It will include other fun locations like beaches and parks, just to name a few.
At the moment, the PC and Switch release has yet to announce a release date, but it is available to be added on a wishlist on Steam. So if you want to play this game now, you can get the mobile version.
As for me, I’m very keen for the PC release. Can’t wait to reunite with all these cute kitties.
