I’ve been playing Fall Guys since August 11. And it all started with a tweet.
I will be honest, I thought Roald said “Fall Out Boy” (the band) but nope… it’s a game and it was trending on Twitter. After seeing a few tweets, I was interested. It’s literally Wipeout or Splatalot for kids – games where you go through obstacle courses to make it to the end!
But when I was playing this game, I realize that the game has taught me some life lessons that can be applied both in-game and real life. If only our future employers will allow us to put these on our resumes.
Timing is everything… and so is improvisation
Games like The Whirlygig and Door Dash requires you to time your runs right or else you end up flying all over the place. I watch the patterns and calculate before dashing through.
In real life, you need to time your actions right. If you aim your goals high, make sure you set your path to the direction where it can help you reach them.
But if things don’t turn out right, you will need to improvise quick. You need to quickly calculate a plan B! In my personal experience, the volunteer work I’m doing right now is my plan B. I didn’t expect to lose my job but we’re in a pandemic so I’m willing to take anything to help me reach that finish line!
Stick with your team, even if they suck
For some reason, the game puts me in yellow team (Or in my Twitch streams – Hufflepuffs). And despite the win rate for yellow team is really low due to the stigma of “yellow team” (have you seen Pokemon Go memes?), you just have to suck it up and get used to it.
Just like in real life, you may not like all the people you work with, but they’re all you have so you need to make it work. And trust me, this has happened once or twice in university. Gotta love group work.
Hardwork will eventually pay off, it takes small steps
You will not win every game of Fall Guys. And if you’re lucky, Fall Guys will roast you till you win. You will have to grind to get that crown and there will be people out there who will support you.
Same goes to reaching your goals in real life. You will need to grind and take so many steps before making it to the end. I had to work closely with the radio station DURING IN THE MIDDLE OF LOCKDOWN to get to where I am… having a spot in their NACA team – The Wire. There is nothing wrong with taking little steps.
Don’t take it too seriously
One thing you need to remember about Fall Guys is that… IT’S A KIDS GAME!!! It’s just a competitive kids game and you can either choose to be so stressed out about it or just be chill.
Just like life itself, don’t take too much of it seriously. Sometimes, you need to take deep breaths and relax because it will get unhealthy. Ngl, this pandemic was sort of a wake up call for me to take a break but also, work hard on what I’m passionate about.
Remember to take care of yourself because burnout sucks.
And these are some of the life lessons that Fall Guys – Ultimate Knockout has taught me. I love the game and I do stream it on Twitch.tv during my spare time, but yeah… the game taught me some things. Or maybe I’m just looking at this too deeply and should just see it in face value – a competitive kids game.
Overall, it’s a fun game and depending on who you are, you could learn a thing or two after playing a few rounds.
